Lola Terwilliger

Lola Marguerite (Corll) Terwilliger, daughter of Floyd J. and Sarah E. Corll, was born March 13, 1919, along with her paternal twin sister, Nola, and departed this life on December 26, 2011, while in the Ringgold County Hospital in Mt. Ayr, at the age of 92. Lola, in addition to Nola, was welcomed into the family by two older brothers, William and Donald and one older sister, Robyn. Her family was completed by the addition of a younger sister, Fern, and brother, Lester.
After graduating from Mt. Ayr High School in 1938, Lola went on to teach in the rural school system.
On October 2, 1942, Lola was united in marriage in Missouri to Wallace Lynn (Jack) Terwilliger. After spending their wedding night in Kellerton, they went to live on their farm northeast of Mt. Ayr. To this union were born two daughters – Kathryn Kay and Peggy Sue.
After Jack passed away in 1971, Lola continued to live and work on their farm. She loved life on the farm, raising cattle and hogs and doing her gardening. "Granny T" (as she became known to many) loved her family and enjoyed her extended family gatherings and events including weekend family campouts, fishing, watching as many ball games that involved grandchildren and great-grandchildren as she possibly could, family holiday celebrations, and special weekend family farm projects on the farm.
She experienced many special moments and/or events throughout her lifetime but just a few which were top on her list included a trip with Mary Ellen to Georgia; family senior getaway weekends with her extended family; playing cards and quarters at family events with the grandchildren and great grandchildren – always very competitive and wanting to win and sometimes even being accused of possibly cheating a little in order to win); Wayne, Sally & Deb's catered birthday dinners; Wilbur and Georgia's many phone conversations; and belonging to a special card party group for 20 years or more.
Lola is survived by her daughters -- Kathryn Westcott of Des Moines and Peg and husband Terry Barnes of Lamoni; sisters-in-law Georgia Shaha of Mt. Ayr, Louise Corll of Ankeny, and Wilma Terwilliger of Kellerton; grandchildren Travis Barnes (and Tessa) of Lamoni, Shannon Barnes (and Tracy) of Tingley, Chandra Henrichs (and Kevin) of Des Moines, and Aaron Westcott (and Nicki) of Carlisle; great grandchildren Abigail and Dalton Barnes of Lamoni, Halsie, Linsie, and Kensie of Tingley, Alexia and Kamryn Henrichs of Des Moines and Draven and Wyatt Westcott of Carlisle and her very special extended family including Patti and Dick Barnes and the Adams' family (Vern, Bev, Kevin, Mike, Jenny, Taylor and Joshua).
Lola was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Sarah; husband Jack; brothers William (Willie), Donald and Lester; sisters Robyn, Nola and Fern; sister-in-law Susie and brother-in-laws Art May, Earl Reynolds Jr., and Wilbur Landphair; granddaughter Somer Dawn Barnes; son-in-law Paul Westcott; and niece Phyllis Ann Corll.
With the dedicated help and commitment of family (especially Peg and Terry) and help from others, she was able to stay in her home on the farm until her passing.
A memorial fund has been established in her name to be decided later.
