Memories & Candles
Lela was my bonus grandmother. Her family is intermingled with mine by marriage and love. Lela alway was there to provide help and love to everyone in her circle and reached beyond to those in need. She was a very special person and I am sure God is happy to have her home.

I'm so sorry to hear about Lela's passing. I will always remember our long talks and the many sleep overs. I always loved being at your house and feeling like part of the family. Even after all these years of living so far away, she still made me feel loved. I will miss her and the letters she wrote keeping me up with what everyone was doing.
I send my love and prayers to all of you!!

I have fond memories of Lela. As a child, I looked forward to the "threashing crew" going to Vince and Lela's. Loved her iced tea. Lela and Donna were the only ones that called me by both names as my Mother. Our sympathy Lgoes out to all the family.

I always enjoyed this great and fun lady! I shall never forget the fun we had at the dances when she and Vincent would dance for hours to my organ music. I loved to visit with her and hear about the fun things she was always doing with her family! She had such a beautiful spirit that was just so infectious to those who were priviledged to be in her presence. May those memories sustain you in this time of grief. I shall keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

She was a very special lady, treasure all the memories you have shared over the years. You were so lucky to have her with you all this time. I remember every time she saw us or Spence she would remind him of being his "pool partner" when he was a kid. Make God Bless You All in this time of loss and sorrow.

Thinking of all of you, Lela was a grand lady. She would help anyone and always had a postive attitude. She will be missed by many but left alot of great memories to be cherished for years to come.

Lela was "family" to an untold number of us--to some, "Aunt Lela," to the next generation, "Gr'ma Dukes." We are all beneficiaries of her huge heart, encouraging words, her wit, and her helping hands. To her kids, grands, and greats: you were SO blessed to have such a lovely lady in your midst for so many precious years. Enjoy the memories!

My husband was helping my father paint Lela and Vincents house on my wedding day. We showered at Lela's .....the only running water in town. It's like losing my own mother. Kay

Just wanted to let all of you know that we are thinking of you. The first word that comes to mind when I think of Lela is "Spunky" and that she was. She will be missed.

I recall at a very young age, eating breakfast at the Dukes table. Jimmy, Joe Dean, Donna Rae, Greg and Clyde Feeback and perhaps another kid was there( maybe that would have been Doris Jean). Shredded wheat ( lagre baled hay) and eggs and bacon. Lela Dukes has been around my entire life. She will be dearly missed.
